Wanna Lepaque?

We have all come across bands with really cheesy, odd and sometimes creative names everywhere we turn right?

The Ting Tings, Hujan, Peter Pan, Spice Girls, Good Charlotte, Linkin Park, Fall Out Boys, Smash Mouth, Taking Back Sunday, Puddle of Mud, Limp Bizkit, System of Down, Korn, Third Eye Blind, Snow Patrol, Soggy Bottom Boys......

I did not make the last one up. You can google it if you do not believe me.



Ever heard of Lepaque?

Now, I am just curious. How would you pronounce lepaque?

Sounds French no?

So maybe its le-phakhh, like you have something stuck in your throat and you want to cough it out.

Or for the less educated people that are not familiar with French words and pronunciations, le-pa-q.

Allow me to save you from sorrow and from spitting all over your screen in attempt to pronounce lepaque.

Quite simple, actually. This is how you say it: LEPAK.

As in, hang out chill around type of lepak. Only spelt in a more creative manner.

Lepaque is the name of a rock band, and the name was generated in the most random of ways. To learn more about the origins of the word Lepaque, please feel free to ask the vocalist of the band, JESLYN LING!!!!!!!!!!

Yes people, our very own JessieLyn Ling is the front face of the Indie band Lepaque, and yours truly got the privilege of being part of Lepaque's entourage for the first time!

I knew about her band since the start of the year, and she has been telling me about her gigs and practises. Sadly, I never got the chance to watch her perform live, until last night at Artista, Tropicana City Mall.



I was there together with Derek and Mark after Rashad, Alep and Syafiq left. Hmph you boys owe Jeslyn and appearance at her next show. We were sitting right in front of the stage, and the sound from the amps were blasting into our ears. A deafening experience. Lolz


Mark Victor! And yes, his language is as "colourful" as before...

They kicked off Indie night at 10-something-pm, first song they played, Move Along by the All American Rejects. This performance was one of my favourites.

Now, to tell you the truth, I never really liked Indie bands. Not especially when they perform live, because it all just sounds like a big mess.

But not Lepaque! They were awesome, and most definitely not noise. But it was a shame that it was abit hard to hear Jessie sing because of the other instruments. Nevertheless, I think it was a really good performance.

Plus they managed to make do without a key-boardist! Not an easy thing to do, but they were creative in thinking of an alternative :)


So whats next guys?

LOLZ I had no idea people do that!

I loved the last song they performed. It was an original, written by Jessie, and is entitled "The Hurtful Things I Tell Myself". It was surprisingly good, and I have to say, I am impressed by her and the rest of the members of Lepaque. Malaysians got talent okeyh!!!

The best part of that song was when she dedicated it to me because I was her "muse" for that song. I suggested she wrote a song out of that title :)

And allow me to introduce to you, the members of Lepaque.

There is another member, the key-boardist, David. Unfortunately he was not able to make it that night due to exams I think.

They put on a great show, even though they did not really practise much. You can tell Jessie was so nervous, and I am quite sure she said, "Ok we're done" and ran off the stage after the last song. Hehe funny.

All in all, they were awesome. So much so, the guy working in Artista invited them back the next week, and if the crowd loves them, they might be able to get a regular spot! Not bad aye?

Stalking Shannon was right after Lepaque.

Yup. I have no idea who Shannon is, poor dear. Kena stalked by a bunch of teenagers.



Every single one of the members of that band is from KDU, except for the vocalist. They were pretty awesome as well. Pretty original.

A very interesting experience for me. I enjoyed every bit of it, well maybe minus the smokey-bar-restaurant part. Other than that, it was fun :)

Nice job Jessie. So proud of you. You have come a long way now haven't you?

The Promise He Kept :)

Joe and I got up before 6 in the morning yesterday because we have not seen each other for two weeks now and we missed each other so much we could not even wait for the sun to rise to see each other.

Awww...

I wish.

It would be nice though, to a certain extend. But I love my sleep. And so does he.

The reason we got up super early in the morning was because of THIS:



Yes, you are not mistaken. We went to the skybridge in KLCC :)

I left the house at 6.20am so that I can catch the bus, get on the LRT, meet Joe at University Station, and head on down to KLCC.

Fortunately Zul, who was on the way home, accompanied me all the way, because the sky was pitch black at 6 something in the morning. Plus I would not feel comfortable waiting for the bus under the street light alone.

Why leave the house at 6??

Well, for this very reason.



Yes, a super long queue!

Tickets for the KLCC skybridge visit is free of charge.

Malaysians, being very kiasu and cheap in our nature, of course want a taste of this privillage. So we would wait in line 1-2 hours before the counter opens, just so that we can go up to Level 42 of KLCC for a span of 5 minutes only, *russell peter indian accent* FOR FREE!

The reason why people are "camping" for these free tickets is because they are a limited amount. It runs out fast, and so, its a race! First come first serve!! You snooze you LOSE!!! Quite literally.

That photo up there was taken when the counter opened at about 8.30am. By the time we got there at 7.30am, the queue was about half of the amount of people in the photo.

Outside that line, there is YET ANOTHER QUEUE! That queue is very long, and it happens to be the queue waiting to queue inside together with all the people in that photo!

This is ridiculous!

But most of the people there were foreigners. Australians, Africans, Europeans, Japanese you name it. And of course, we have our own lovely Malaysian people :)

The craze to go up KLCC is understandable. I mean, the twin towers are one of the famous towers in the world! Why pass up that opportunity especially when it is for free?



Zul was there suffering in the queue together with Joe while I sat by the stairs and waited for them.

After that, we had McD breakfast.

DO NOT GO TO KLCC FOR MCD I THINK THE PRICE THERE IS DOUBLE I FEEL CHEATED!!!!!

I suggested we eat in the park facing KLCC because it was nice and cool there.



Then came the time to go up the bridge and for Zul to leave me to phak toh properly with Joe!!!

Hahah just kidding Zul :p

Joe picked the 11.15am session, and we were grouped together with a bunch of other people. First, we watched a 7 minute video about Petronas and KLCC.





I was rather amazed at the structure of KLCC. Such an engineering marvel! Especially the bridge. Do you know that the bridge is actually an extension and is not built connected with the two towers? Brilliant I tell you.

Then came the time to go up the bridge! We climbed all the way up! What? Free bah. What do you expect? EXERCISE!!!! EXERCISE!!!!!

Just kidding.

The elevator that we use was super fast. It has a speed of 6 metres per second, and we got to the 42nd floor in less than a minute! The elevators in college and church are super old turtles compared to those in KLCC!!

It was rather interesting to be up there, up so high in the sky.

Too bad the haze and some ugly construction sites ruined it. Nevertheless, it was nice.

Hey shoppers, this is what the roof of the mall looks like!

I think it would be fun to have his job for a day :)

We only had 5 minutes there, and that was all that was necessary.

My favourite part about the sky bridge visit was the fact that Joe was willing to get up at 5 something in the morning, walk all the way from UM to the LRT station at 6 something in the morning without breakfast in an very sleepy state, take a breather from studying even though he has a long way to catch up, and just to go through such a tiring morning even though he was on media duty in church at 3pm till night.

And all that, for me :)

I feel so special and important and loved :D

*cue awwwwwwwwwwwww*



An interesting experience. I do not think that either one of us would want to do it again. Once in a lifetime is enough.

Another fun thing done in KL. But yesterday, it was not what I did that was important. It was more of who I did it with that mattered most :)

And a bonus, Joe helped me with my pork cravings during lunch. He also willingly went out of his way to help a blind dude all the way from University Station to UM, and even offered to stay with him at the bus stop until the blind dude's friend came to meet him. Joe had a good chat with him too (his BM is better than mine!).

This is a new side of him I that I saw, and I like it :) *warm feelings inside*

Thank you dearie for that morning. And for all the sacrifices you made, just to honour your promise to me. And I am glad that you had a good time and a very much needed break from your studies. I hope you enjoyed the company the most though hehe :)

Since the cameraman had to go to church for his media duty, I was to be left all alone on a lovely Saturday afternoon. But, I just finished my exams the day before, its a freakin' Saturday, and I DO NOT WANT TO SPEND THAT DAY AT HOME ALONE WITH NOTHING TO DO!

So, I called up our favourite fashion guru!



And together, we teared up Sunway, TGV, Tgi and Juice Works!





It was a good day. Started off well, and ended just as well too :)

The End!

As of today at 12pm, I am now, EXAM FREE!!!

Well, until 18th May la...

Ok so I have finished my trials. Two freakin weeks of overstuffing and overloading and stupid past year questions, stress and lack of sleep, and for the time being its over. So I should be happy right?

To a certain extent, I have to say I am glad that its over.

But am I completely happy about it?

No.

Because my exams are not actually over. It will finally be over on 9th June 2010.

For this trials exam, I did what I could, and I have concluded at every end of the test that I still do have the potential to do better. And I have 1-2 months to get better at everything!

But like what the really new Joshie New said in his blog, its always 10% us, and 90% God.

I am not saying that since its just 10% from us, we do not have to stress or work as hard. But that 10% contribution towards the whole picture is actually 100% our own effort.

And dude look! We work so hard, but at the end, our smartness and late nights are only 10% of the total result.

Our righteousness are His filthy rags.

Our smartness is His foolishness.

See how big my God is :)

So yea, one more month to go. You all know what that means.

For now, I will take a short break, and continue slaving over my books and past years on Monday.

Even though I finished my exams at 12 today, I am still stuck in college. Why? Because our beloved Mr George wants to have class at 5pm. -_____-"

Lunch sucked.

And I am so bored I think I am just going to go play Typing Maniac on Facebook until my class starts T.T

Should have brought my nail polish :p

Where The Light Is

Its an obsession, yes.

Some people do not understand my taste in music.

Take Joe and Kautsar for example.

They do not understand why I like John Mayer so much.

Well, to be fair, I do not understand or share the same taste in music as they do.

To each their own, which includes Jie and Pei Jin's insane obsession about Super Junior...

So yes, I love John Mayer.



I admit, I think he has personality issues. And I somehow get the feeling that he is abit too narcist and show off-y.

BUT, when I say I love John Mayer, I meant I love him musically :D

A lot of people think that he has a weird voice. I think its awesome. Husky voice = sexy. HELLO DON'T YOU GET IT??? Haha

By the way, you do know that his voice is different from when he sings and when he speaks?

The thing about John is, not only is he an awesome musician, he is an AMAZING performer!



Think of Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boys. We have all heard his songs on the radio, we all know what his voice sounds like, right?

Have you heard Patrick perform LIVE?



Epic fail I tell you.

Voice cracking like nobody's business!

That goes the same for a whole lot of other so-called artist such as Taylor Swift and Jason Derulo. Yes people, your precious princess Taylor cannot sing live!

But not John. He can sing for 1 hour plus, and his voice won't crack. It will stay consistent!

Mind you, not many people can do this! Especially not a bunch of these contemporary artist of our generation.

John is an amazing guitarist. One of the main reasons why I love him so much.

Ok, you listen to some of his songs on radio, not much emphasis on the guitar. But watch him live and you'll know what I mean.

I seriously have to thank my cousin Azrul for putting John's live concert in LA into my Ipod.

Where The Light Is is the title. And it is about 2 hours of John John John JOHN!!!



Three different styles of his music, one genre after another. Awesome vocals. And even more awesome guitar skills!



The three incarnations of his music were from pop (from his earlier albums), to the John Mayer trio (a trio with him, Pino Pallodino and Steve Jordan, covering songs by various artist such as Jimi Hendrix), to blues (his more recent songs).



His guitar skills are kick-ass! And the song arrangement together with the band is awesome. But I have to say, he makes funny faces when he sings. Hehe

I can watch Where The Light Is over and over again, and not get bored!

The first time I watched it was on the plane back to KL, and on the bus from the airport to KL sentral.

And ever since, I have been watching it again, and again. Not everyday, mind you.

These days, I like to plug in my Ipod, open up Itunes and just play the video from start to finish, minimise the screen and listen to the concert while I am studying.

Made With Love

When was the last time you had a nice home cook meal?

Something fresh off the stove, and sizzling hot from the oven.

Something that people have been slaving over for hours just to get it right?

Something yummy and healthy. And guaranteed to be clean.

Something cook, and just made with love?

I just did last night!

Yumm yumm!!

Last night's cell was fun. We were instructed to bring our empty stomach because Mrs Chew is going to cook dinner for us!

And sure enough, she did. Together with the Korean Chef!



I asked Cissie, why the sudden urge to cook dinner for us?


As you can see, we had eggs, lamb stew, luncheon meat and chicken wings!!

It turns out that there was a reason to celebrate something.



Tadaa!!!

The final piece of Cissie's kitchen has been installed!!! See that thing that looks like an alien spaceship that has come down to Earth to steal Cissie's very yummy stew?

Yup. That fan thing (I have no idea what is it called) is the latest addition to the kitchen, and since it has completed the puzzle, Cissie wanted to celebrate and put it to good use!

And our stomachs were very very grateful for it :)

Even though Cissie said it failed to compare with her previous batch of stew, I still think that it was very very nice!

Korean!!!

One fine day, I was taking my food from the ethnic corner in KDU Square.

I went up to the counter to retrieve my very yummy nasi goreng pattaya, when ALL OF A SUDDEN, this African dude turns to me and starts talking to me.

Don't get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with talking to one of them foreign students in college. So I tried my very best to be as polite as possible no matter how funny I thought the conversation was.

This is how it went down:

Dude : *for no apparent reason, turns to me and say* Are you Korean?

Me : Huh? Owh, no I am not. I am local :)

Dude : Owh. You look Korean...

Me : Owh no no. I am from Malaysia.

Dude : Owh. Are you having lunch alone?

Me : *stun* No, I am having lunch with my friends. They are over there

Dude : Owh *walks away*

Hahaha wahlao eh! Which part of me looks Korean?

And he did not even say "Hi" or "Bye".

And no, he was not even looking at me before he started talking to me. At least I don't think he was...

Joe was actually disappointed with me because I did not chat him up. Well, unless you want a promiscuous girlfriend my dear then..........

Er, there are a few koreans in my college, and they are the most Korean looking Koreans I have ever seen!

You can tell by their features, especially the eyes.

Cravings

What do you do when it happens to be your roommate's birthday, and she happens to crave for something for a period of time now?

Simple. You choose to ignore and life goes on as usual. Smooth sailing :)

BUT, instead of obeying that golden rule in life, I decided to go against the norm and suggested to my classmates that we go celebrate Kautsar's birthday in her most favourite place in the world.



And the price I paid for it was a kiss on the cheek by the birthday girl.

Piggie, I assure you that I am not lesbian! Hehehe :p

We went right after chemistry class. A very tiring day deserves to end with a very satisfying dinner, especially for the birthday girl!



It was one of the very rare occasions I go out with my classmates (science 608). Since it was Kautsar's birthday today, well of course. When opportunity presents itself :)

Crap

When life gives you lemons,

YOU TAKE THE LEMON AND THROW IT AT THE PERSON THAT GAVE YOU THE STOOOOOOOOOOPID LEMON IN THE FIRST PLACE!



Yes I like to say that.

And I also like to complain and ask God, "Why are You putting me through so much crap???"

But after I come out of that phase, I realise, He is putting me through all that to GROW UP.

Stop being so selfish.

Stop being so self-centred.

Stop being so ill-tempered.

Just shut up and listen.

And don't jump to conclusion like that.

Listen to His word, obey His commands, and then you will pull through.

And grow up to be more mature, and to be more in His image.

This Potter wants to mould this clay into something beautiful.



It will hurt along the way, but the outcome is simply worth it :)
