Rolling Around In Dough

That is what my friend, Billy Sprague, said when I told him that I was going to work after class.

And for those of you who do not speak cool, this is NOT what we mean by "rolling around in dough":

The only thing that is rolling around in THAT dough is the rolling pin!

THIS is what we mean by it:

Man, I wish I had just as much as that fler there.

So, I mentioned in my previous posts that I had a few jobs on campus. YAY MOOLAH!

In February, I applied to be a Student Ambassador here in Mines. After a really scary interview session (it was not really scary. I was just really nervous), I managed to land this job!

What does a Student Ambassador do?

In short, a Student Ambassador is just a fancy name for a tour guide. DO NOT TELL ANYONE THAT I TOLD YOU THIS!

YOU!!! SHUT UP AND PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT I HAVE TO SAY!!!

So what we do is, we meet with the parents and prospective students, show them around campus, tell them about the school, tell them what college life is like, basically be the front face of the school.

In conclusion, I am paid to walk around the school and tell people how awesome the school is.

My fancy name tag

I think I might be the first Malaysian working in admissions with this position. I may be wrong though.

I love this job. The main reason why I applied for this job is because I really do think this school is awesome. I like the fact that I get to meet a lot of people, and learn more about the school at the same time.

The admissions team here in Mines kick butt! Unlike other colleges and universities, our team of Ambassadors do private tours; we take one family per tour, instead of sticking them in a group with 40 other people for the tour.

We also send them a personalized postcard after the tour.

Talk about Mines hospitality!

Being a Student Ambassador has really improved my public speaking skills, social skills, and most importantly how to deal with really difficult people that makes you want to do this:

Another good thing that came from being a Student Ambassador is that this first job helped me land another job here on campus!

When the people at the CTLM were looking through the resumes, they said that mine stood out because of my position as a Student Ambassador. How cool is that??

The main reason why I applied for another job on campus is not because I am a greedy little piggy that wants a ton of money. The Ambassador job does not pay much. The timing of the tours are not very flexible, they are also very limited, and extremely dependent on whether the people decide to show up for a tour or not. Like I said, this job is mainly because I enjoy it. Not for the moolah.

So I decided to apply for a job at the CTLM, because the hours are flexible, and the people here are really nice.

I started working here a few weeks ago. So far so good. We have almost nothing to do most of the times because its summer, and there are very few people left on campus.

We consultants have to answer phones, give people their prints, print posters, fix computers. Basically anything that has to do with computers and things related to it, we can help you!

They hired me knowing that I have ZERO computer skills. Which is awesome of them. The guy who hired me said that I will learn the ropes as I go along.

I HAVE learned a whole lot of things here. Occasionally I almost get into fights with the cash register. Other than that, every day is an opportunity to learn something new :)

And btw, the people that work here are COMPUTER GENIUSES! I cower and humble myself in their awesome presence and knowledge in laptops and computers!

So yea, these are the two jobs that I currently have here on campus.

Mummy should be glad that I am finding ways to support myself here.

Otherwise, she will have to sell her car and work two jobs to support my lifestyle here.

An excellent choice of lifestyle, don't you think ;)

Helluva Engineer

I am currently studying in the ever prestigious Colorado School of Mines!

The school was established in 1874, making it two years older than the state of Colorado!

Located in the quiet and serene city of Golden, with an elevation of more than a mile above sea level.

The school is surrounded by plenty of mountains, perfect for any person who loves the outdoors. And trust me, these Colorado people LOVE the outdoors.

I have been here for almost a year, and I tell you. There is no other school/college/university that I would much rather be in!

We are a school full of engineers and science/math loving people. Nerds and geeks, yes. Which makes it all the more fun. But do not get me wrong. Not every single Mines student looks like this:

We are extremely normal looking people! Like this:

And this:

And occasionally we look like this:

this:

And last but not least, this:

Aah fun :)

For the next few weeks, I will be writing posts about my freshman year; the things I have done, the places I have been to, the people I have met, the things I had to go through etc.

And for now, I leave you with our school fight song, also known as The Mining Engineer.

Do not ask me how to sing it. I have absolutely no idea.

So much for school pride huh? Hehe

DUST!!!

OMG!!!

Look at all the dust here!

And this terrifying creature that resided in my blog over the past few months!

DIE YOU STUPID THING!!! DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahem.

So in all honesty, this blog totally slipped my mind. I would not have remembered it if it were not for Davey

The "good and innocent man" that I love to torture.

So why now??

Mainly because I am currently working in the computer lab on campus, and I have absolutely nothing to do. So I thought, why not?

And FYI, I get paid to go on Facebook for 4 hours, 5 times a week.

TAKE THAT SUCKERS!!!

No pictures. I'd totally take one now, but one of my colleagues is sitting right across me. I am not very close with him, so pointing a camera in his direction (even though I have absolutely NO intention of being his paparazzi) would be extremely strange. And I have been working here for like what, 2 weeks now?

But much has happened since I last published a post on blogger.

I have a feeling that most of my friends that have a blogspot account may not be blogging anymore. Even so, I do want to continue to doodle nonsensical rantings on this site.

Until I think of something to do, TTFN! Tata for now!

Wow

OMG it has been months since I blogged.

This goes out to Justin Tappan, who was facebook stalking me. Thanks for reminding me that I have a blog lolz.

I have been up to many things, one post will not cover it all.

Honestly, I have been abit lazy and busy to update this blog, so if you have been following me on facebook, you will have a rough idea of what I have been up to.

I will do a brief summary some other time.

Lazy me, signing off for now

California!!

Hellooo from LA!

I had a really good trip but its not over yet.

Here is a summary of my trip. From KLIA, we had a four hours flight to Taipei, where we transit there for about an hour, and from there, a 12-13 hours flight AAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLL the way to LA!!!

I didn't get much sleep though because there was a whole lot of tv and movies to watch!

We all arrived safe and sound, and all our personal belongings with us. Praise the Lord :)

When we first stepped out of LAX, it was soooo coooool!!! Like someone installed an aircond outdoors!! Hehehe a glimpse of the chilly days ahead. And we all gave out our first tip to the shuttle van guy. Its American culture to tip, sort of like a service tax. Hehe

Its about 10.51pm now, and the night is not over!

The Petronas officer wants to take us out for a drink I think :)

BTW, there were 15 of us Petronas Scholars hehe.

Tomorrow, we split up. Kautsar and I will be going to Denver tomorrow morning.

This is a quickie. Will blog more later! If I don't feel lazy la hehe

A2

The A-levels results have been released today at 7am local time, and 12am UK time.

I woke up early at 7.30am because I could not sleep.

My heart was pounding fast for about half an hour after that.

When I keyed in my username and password on the website, I clicked log in, and freaked out.

I complained to Mun Kit, "OWH SHIT I PRESS LOG IN NOW I DON DARE TO LOOK!!!"

But the site was jammed that time -.-

And I was playing Secrets by One Republic on my Ipod, for dramatic effect.

I know, so dramatic right? Runs in the family :p

After summoning enough courage to just face the facts and look, this is what I saw

Praise the Lord, I did well :D

3As and one of them is an A star for Maths. Sadly, I did not get A for further maths. B for that one.

No, not because I super kiasu. I worked super duper hard on it, plus I owe it to my further maths lecturer who is so super smart and kind and patient with all of us. I wanted to win that A for her. None of us managed to do so, hence the increase in guilt! :(

I feel very grateful to all the lecturers and my friends too. Most importantly, God :)

People keep saying, do your best!

If it were to be based on "my best" only, I would have gotten just one A, and probably a C for Physics.

So yea, I did my best, but God did better, hence the other two As! Huge miracle!

Praise the Lord :)

And the best part is, most of my friends made it too :D

So we USA bound scholars are flying over to LA on 21st August. So fast right?

I can't believe this is happening :)

Missing In Action

Not really, I was just deprived of the internet for the past week. No cafe world :(

But luckily Kautsar is there to help me cook! Hehe

Hello people, I send you greetings from the Penang Island!

And in a few more hours, we will be in Cameron Highlands for the night together with Jeslyn, Badaq and Jon.

Just to update you on where I am now.

I just had the most interesting cheese roti bakar! Yumm hehe

Ok bai :p

Three Silly Giggly Girls

Mission one of my trip to KL is accomplished!

And I say that with enthusiasm and joy because to apply for an American Visa is not as easy or fun as it seems.

You need to go to Alliance bank to pay this, get the visa form from the university in USA, apply and pay for SEVIS, fill in DS-160 online, make sure the photograph meets all specifications, run here run there, do this do that WARGH!!!!

The fact that you cannot and MUST NOT get anything wrong made it all the more stressful! One wrong thing and no visa for you!

After a whole lot of miscommunication between the uni and with friends, I finally managed to get everything ready before I proceeded to the final step.

Kautsar, Jessie and I got the interview on the same day. We all know how terrible KL jams are, so thank God we made it just in time for Kautsar to check in!

The American embassy is really cool. It gave me the whole "White House" feel, only the building was not white in colour.

My appointment time at the embassy was at 8.50am, but I only left the place at 11am. It took two hours because of the waiting process, but the interview itself took less than 5 minutes.

And security there is tight! We had to leave our IC, handphones, cameras, Ipods, MP3 players and other electronic devices at the front gate. They even took my set of sewing needles away. I totally forgot about them hehe

I even overheard this African guy have a heated argument with security, to which she sternly replied, "Sir you are not an American citizen. If you are going to be angry I will not let you in." True enough she did not, because I never saw him inside after that. It pays to be patient I guess.

Since they took my stuff away, I could not take pictures of the embassy's compound. It looked really nice, and again, the whole white-house-splendour feel came as I walked towards the building from the gate.

The entire waiting process was so long. There were so many people, and it seemed as though they were skipping numbers! One moment it was A62, and the next it was A80. What happened to the numbers in between? Hmm...

Even though it was another slow day at the embassy, the people working at the counters were really nice. There was this sweet American lady who was in her late-forties, and she greeted everyone with a friendly "Good morning" even though they kept her waiting after she called their number. I like her hehe

While waiting for my turn for the interview, I was so nervous and I felt butterflies in my stomach.

Before I went to the embassy today, I always thought that the interviews were done in a dark boardroom where you have to sit across a panel of interviewers. The two or three of them would start drilling you with questions and shred you to pieces in anyway they can! And one of the interviewers will be this old white-haired American guy enjoying himself as you turn into a speck of dust during the interview.

Does it ring a bell? How about this picture:

Yup, I thought I was going to walk in a room just like that and have my interview done, only I did not expect this fellow to be there.

Yes I have a wild imagination, and I should probably stop watching so much TV now :(

I was relieved, but slightly disappointed when I found out that the interviews will be conducted at a counter through a glass window that separates us from them. No scary boardroom for me then.

The interviews can last up to half an hour, depending on the officers mood. But sadly, mine lasted about 5 minutes :(

Why sadly? I mean, I should be glad because I passed and the dreadful process of applying for VISA is finally over, right?

I'll tell you why I am sad.

Because the officer was so so sooo handsome!!!!

I think he is an ABC (American borned Chinese). And he has such a cute American accent!! He was so so soooooooo nice to me! He even acknowledged the fact that CSM is a very good school! So smart!! Hahaha

Man, I wish I had the chance to talk longer with him.

Coincidentally, Kautsar, Jessie and I were interviewed by him. After we stepped out of the embassy, we squealed in delight as we talked about him. Haha Kautsar would like me to point out the fact that he talked to her the longest. Meh :p

What a way to start the day huh! Hehehe

Bandar Baru Bangi!

I love MAS.

But not this flight! Although the air-steward was kinda cute hehe :p

I am now in Bangi. Disturbing Kautsar. Mission one accomplished :D

I think her mum is delighted to received the three ikan masin terubok that my mum bought for her. I saw so many other boxes of those fish in the airport just now. Semenanjung people love fish I guess -.-

My visa interview is tomorrow, hopefully we can all make it.

So, three weeks of adventure in KL will begin, TOMORROW!

In a completely different story, we all know about the cliche question of "what are the three things that you would bring to a deserted island?"

Well my lovely brother asked me that question, and my reply was simple.

"I will bring you. To cook and clean up for me."

To which, that witty nut-case replied, "I will most probably find a way out, and leave you there!"

Wonderful. I love you too brother.

Smackdown

Remember my genius brother that I featured in my previous post?

I did something that I never imagined I would ever do with him.

See, when it comes to my brother, you do not joke about food. Especially HIS food.

For example, when my aunt bought him a box of Ferrero Rochers, he actually hid three pieces from him. Silly boy thought that I could not find them so perfectly and obviously perched on the door of the freezer.

A couple years ago, I went through a phase where I wanted to lose weight, so during Gawai, I promised myself that I would not drink a whole can of soft drinks. Instead, I would take sips here and there from my brother and sister. It got to the point where my brother would literally run and hide the can of coke in his hand from me everytime he sees me.

It goes both ways though. There were multiple times where I would also hide food from him.

So, my brother feels very strongly about his food. Remember I mentioned that he put my stuffed bear into the freezer because I ate his chocolate??

The next day, we went to our aunt's place for a big dinner. After dinner, I always helped myself to the fridge and look for desserts. There in a transparent container, I saw two pieces of Cadbury chocolates covered in golden wrapping.

I took them both out, and out of goodwill, thought that I would consider giving the other piece to my brother.

I broke them up, and popped one into my mouth as I walked back to the kitchen.

It was then when my eyes were opened.

The piece of chocolate that I was munching in my mouth tasted, so heavenly.

It was not like the other Cadbury chocolates.

Not like any of those in the picture below

Or like the other flavours. Not dairy milk, not dream, not fruits and nuts.

It was different.

In the middle of the chocolate was a very rich vanilla tasting white chocolate.

It was heavenly!

I was almost done with that piece when my mother wanted to take the other piece from me. But I pretended that I did not want to give it to her. Spoiled little princess is suppose to get everything :p

And then, out of no where, BOOM!!!!

My brother attacked me from behind, trying to snatch the other piece of chocolate from my hand!!!

What was I to do?

Only one option, fight back!!

A quite simple after-dinner-chat turned into the Jawing Offspring Smackdown!!

We were not jumping on top of each other and hurling each other around.

I was still sitting down, and his arms were around my neck in a choking position!

What a struggle!

Felixon attempted to gross me out by licking my hand that held on to the chocolate so dearly. But his attempts did nothing, so I proceeded to actually biting his arm!

I even kneed him in the face!

Lets not forget that my brother is twice my size and is stronger than me.

He managed to grab hold of my hand and tried to pry my fingers open. I was on the verge of losing!

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could not let him win like that! It was a matter of pride, and not to mention the VERY LAST PIECE OF THE HEAVEN-LIKE CHOCOLATE!!!!

I acted fast, swiftly passed the chocolate to my other hand that was free and TOUCHDOWN!!! quickly put it in my mouth and started chewing!!!

VICTORY!!!!

CHAMPION!!!!!! Woohoo!!!

Haha

Bet you did not see that one coming! Neither did my mum, aunt and uncle who witnessed the entire thing and just laughed.

Ok, this is the first time my brother and I had a physically struggle over food, or over anything at all! And it was so violent! Haha

Both of us did not want the chocolate that badly, please do not misunderstand me.

My brother just wanted to annoy me by stealing that piece of chocolate from me, and I wanted to annoy him back by not letting him have it.

Excuse my hair, its a little messy. Excuse his hair, its LINDA PORN'S WIG!!!!

Haha one of the many nonsense my family goes through :D
